Boomer Rock Trivia – February 21

Holly Hughes from New York City is 2-4-2.  The item in the list that is not a keyboard is the Theramin… played by moving your hands near two metal rods to control pitch and volume.  Listen to Good Vibrations by the Beach Boys.

The Vox Continental was played by Alan Price, Ray Manzarek, Paul Revere, and a gazillion other keyboardist throughtout the sixties.  The Hammond B-3… only a friggin’ ICON!!! ….  Think Stevie Winwood (Gimme Some Lovin’, I’m a Man, Keep On Runnin’), John Lord (Smoke on the Water, Highway Star, Lazy), Mark Stein (You Keep Me Hangin’ On, People Get Ready, She’s Not There), and Booker T Jones (Green Onions, Time is Tight).  Mellotron used tape loops to create orchestral sounds… probably the most famous use of the instrument is by the Beatles…  Moog Synthesizers (created by Bob Moog) changed the entire universe of popular music.  For a while, the musicians unions opposed their use in many studios and venues because they could replace live musicians.

So now we know Mark Stein played keyboards… for what group?

  • Supremes
  • Zombies
  • Chicago
  • Vanilla Fudge
  • Deep Purple
